“Renaissance”

Eden Scrafford

Renaissance

Ceaselessly bleed these callow hearts

Whilst jaded eyes run dry

Watered by unfiltered truths

Roots tainted writhe and die

Yet richer grows these able fruits

Aged to merlot wine

Not as sweet as grapes of youth

Still twin flames feast and dine

Patrons stain their idle sleeves

In the fountain of another

Drowning in a brewers craft

Moved souls proclaim him brother

Harsh skies mix vivid paint

Color fades in garish light

Beyond sunrise and sunset

Stars only shine at night

Be it red sky at morning

Or to sailors joy at night

Only when a red moon rises

Do masses declare a sight

New horizon drawing near

Phoenix burning bright

Erexit ex dolore

Thus darkness sires light
